Dolbadarn Castle
The story
A Welsh castle silhouetted against a dark mountain sky, with soldiers escorting a kneeling prisoner below. Turner painted this in 1800 and exhibited it with his own verses about the medieval Welsh prince Owain Goch, who was imprisoned here. It earned Turner full membership of the Royal Academy.
