Venice from Fusina
The story
Venice rises out of the lagoon, seen from the mainland — its domes and spires shimmering across luminous water. Turner painted this watercolor in 1821 from sketches he'd made on his first visit to the city in 1819. Venice would become one of his favorite subjects for the rest of his life.
