Dolbadarn Castle
The story
A medieval Welsh castle in the mountains near Llanberis, sketched by Turner during his 1798 and 1799 trips to Wales. This 1799 pencil-and-watercolor study fed into a much larger oil painting later. He kept coming back to Dolbadarn — its history of imprisoned princes appealed to him.
