The Cats (Les chats)
The story
Cats sit perched as silhouettes against a tiled roof. Manet made this print around 1868-69 as a promotional sheet for the writer Champfleury's popular book Les Chats. The image works as an emblem for the book and shows off Manet's fondness for the animal.
