On the Beach at Boulogne
The story
Fashionably dressed bathers spread out along the wet sand in a long, low panorama. Manet painted this in the summer of 1868 at Boulogne, drawing on Japanese prints for the flat figures and wide format. The loose handling hints at the Impressionism just starting to emerge.
