The story
The Persian Shah Abbas, ringed with a green halo, offers fruit to a seated ambassador in this scene of a 1618 diplomatic meeting. The envoy had been sent from the Mughal emperor Jahangir. A Mughal artist on the embassy made sketches on the spot, and this painting descends from them.
