The story
A fair-haired Breton girl in folk costume holds her hands together in prayer against a flat, pale background. Gauguin painted her in 1894 in Pont-Aven, between his two Tahitian trips, blending Breton piety with the bold, decorative manner he had brought back from the Pacific.
