The Flowering Orchard

Blossoming fruit trees in an orchard near Arles. Van Gogh wrote that he wanted to paint "a Provençal orchard of tremendous gaiety," and in a month he produced fourteen canvases of blossoming apricots, peaches and plums. The angular branches show how much he was looking at Japanese prints. Painted in 1888.
