About Impressionist Art

Impressionism emerged in 1870s France when a group of painters — led by Claude Monet, Camille Pissarro, and Auguste Renoir — broke from the academic tradition and took their easels outdoors. Their goal was to capture the quality of light at a specific moment: the shimmer of afternoon sun on the Seine, the blur of a café terrace on a rainy evening, the steam rising from a Paris station on a cold morning. Where academic painting demanded smooth finish and historical subject matter, the Impressionists worked with visible brushstrokes, broken colour, and the unstable beauty of everyday life.

The movement transformed Western art permanently. Every subsequent development — Post-Impressionism, Fauvism, Modernism — builds on or reacts to what Monet and his circle discovered beside the rivers and harbours of northern France. Today, Impressionist paintings are among the most recognised and beloved images in the history of art.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is Impressionist art?

Impressionism is a French painting movement from the 1870s–90s focused on capturing fleeting light and atmosphere rather than precise detail. Key artists include Monet, Renoir, Degas, and Pissarro. The movement is known for visible brushwork, outdoor subjects, and everyday subject matter.

  • Where can I buy Impressionist art prints in India?

Mojud ships Impressionist art prints across India — Monet, Renoir, Degas, Pissarro, and more. Prints are made to order on matte fine-art paper or canvas, with free shipping to all major cities.

  • Which Monet painting makes the best wall art?

Monet's Water Lilies series works beautifully at larger sizes — the horizontal composition fills a wall with calm colour. His Haystacks series and the London Thames paintings also reproduce well. The best choice depends on your room's colour palette and the mood you want.

  • Are Impressionist prints suitable for living rooms?

Yes — Impressionist paintings are among the most versatile wall art for homes. Their warm palettes, natural subjects, and sense of light complement most interior styles from classic to contemporary.

  • How long does it take to receive an art print from Mojud?

Prints are made to order and take 5–8 working days to produce, then 2–5 days for shipping. Most orders reach metros within 10–12 working days of placing the order.
