Still Life with Quinces / Still Life with Pears

Fourteen yellow quinces sit on a blue cloth in front of a brown wall. Van Gogh kept the elements simple so he could focus on the contrast between yellow and blue-green. The flat colour and missing shadows show how much attention he was paying to Japanese woodblock prints. Painted in 1887.
