Rotterdam Ferry-Boat
The story
A crowded ferry in the foreground, a huge Dutch warship riding at anchor behind it. Turner painted this in 1833, taking cues from the great Dutch sea painters of the 1600s — but the loose brushwork and glowing sky belong only to him.
