Mercury and Argus
The story
The god Mercury, sent by Jupiter, lulls the hundred-eyed giant Argus to sleep so he can free Io, a maiden Jupiter had turned into a cow to hide her from his jealous wife. A mid-seventeenth-century take on the story by an imitator of Claude Lorrain.
