Harmen Doomer
The story
Herman Doomer, a successful Amsterdam cabinetmaker who specialised in fashionable imported hardwoods. Rembrandt painted him in 1640 while Doomer's son Lambert was apprenticing in his studio — the care lavished on the wide-brimmed black hat and lace collar suggests a personal regard between fellow craftsmen.
