Four Breton Women
The story
Four Breton women in white headdresses and dark dresses chat in the open air. Gauguin painted this in 1886, likely from sketches he made in Pont-Aven and then worked up in Paris over the winter. The flat shapes and saturated colour are a clear break from Impressionism.
