Woman Drawing Water at the Cistern
The story
A servant stoops to fill a pitcher at a big copper water tank in a quiet kitchen corner, while a child plays unnoticed nearby. Chardin painted this in 1733 — taking ordinary household work seriously, the way other painters treated kings and battles. The surface is exceptionally well preserved.
