Madame Manet (Suzanne Leenhoff, 1830–1906) at Bellevue

Manet's wife Suzanne sits dissolving into bright garden light, the brushwork loose and breezy. This is the last portrait he ever painted of her. He spent six months in the summer of 1880 at the suburb of Bellevue, working mostly outdoors in the garden.
