George Moore (1852–1933) at the Café

The young Irish novelist George Moore sits at a Paris cafe table, his pale beard and head loosely blocked in against a sketchy background. Manet started this in 1878 and never finished it. Moore later used a related Manet portrait as the front of his 1893 book Modern Painting.
