Alyonushka
The story
A barefoot peasant girl crouches on a rock above a still pond, her dark gaze cast down. She's Alyonushka from Russian folklore — the sister of the boy Ivanushka. Viktor Vasnetsov painted her in 1881, and the image became one of the most-reproduced pictures of pre-revolutionary Russia.
