Young Lady in 1866

A young woman in a long pink robe holds a small bunch of violets, a grey parrot perched beside her. The model is Victorine Meurent, who also posed for Olympia. Painted in 1866, it was seen as Manet's reply to a similar picture by Courbet, and scholars read the details as a hidden allegory of the five senses.
