Tranquil Pond (Egelsee near Golling, Salzburg)

A still pond ringed by quiet vegetation, painted near Salzburg in the summer of 1899. The surface is flat and reflective, with little sense of depth — Klimt is starting to treat landscape as pattern, something he'd push much further in the lake paintings to come.
