The Viaticum, Toledo
The story
A Catholic procession winds out of a narrow alley into San Lucas Square in Toledo, carrying the Eucharist to someone dying nearby. Bilbao loved Toledo and visited from boyhood — he painted this in 1922, capturing one of the quiet street ceremonies he'd grown up watching.
