The King's Wife
The story
A nude Tahitian woman reclines on a green cloth under a mango tree heavy with fruit, while a servant picks fruit and two old men talk in the distance. Gauguin painted this in 1896 as his own answer to Manet's Olympia — he had carried a reproduction of it with him to the South Pacific.
