Tahitian Woman and Boy
The story
A young woman sits in a wicker chair in a pink embroidered dress, with a boy in a white shirt standing behind her. Gauguin painted this in 1899; the woman may be his teenaged companion Pau'ura. The canvas vanished for forty years in a Scottish castle before resurfacing at auction.
