On the Shore of the Lake at Martinique
The story
Lush tropical vegetation on the shore of a lake on Martinique. Gauguin painted this in 1887 during the months he spent on the Caribbean island with his friend Charles Laval. The saturated colour already looks ahead to his later Tahitian work.
