Road to Puteaux
The story
A tree-lined road heads out to Puteaux, a working-class suburb west of Paris. Utrillo painted this around 1913 in the chalky whites and pale tones of his "white period," giving the modest buildings a quiet sadness. His mother, the painter Suzanne Valadon, first pushed him to paint.
