Red Boats, Argenteuil

Bright red-hulled sailing boats moored in the Argenteuil basin, the vermilion playing sharply against the blue water and green of the bank. Painted by Monet around 1875. He quietly left out the factory smokestacks that actually stood at the site, presenting the basin as a place of pure leisure.
