The story
A cluster of ruined village houses in the foreground, with arid Castilian fields and bright sky stretching behind. Echevarría painted this around 1920 after years in Paris, applying lessons from Gauguin and the Fauves to a small town in Burgos. Critics at the time called his landscapes "musical."
