The celestial dancer Tilottama descends through the clouds half-clothed, playing with a red ball — a figure from the Mahabharata described by Brahma as combining the perfections of all creation. Raja Ravi Varma painted her around 1896, reportedly modelled on Bouguereau's Birth of Venus.
