Consolatrix Afflictorium

A Madonna-like figure cradles an infant in a wooded clearing while angels play lute and harp around her. At the right, a grieving man buries his face in his hands. Pascal Dagnan-Bouveret painted this in 1899, after spending most of his career on scenes of peasant life.
