A game of croquet
The story
Four players gather around a game of croquet on a suburban lawn, including the painter Alfred Stevens, the model Victorine Meurent, and Manet's friend Paul Rodier. Painted outdoors in 1873, this is the closest Manet ever came to full Impressionism, though he still arranged the figures within a careful grid.
