The Raising of Lazarus - Vincent Van Gogh

The biblical scene of Lazarus being raised from the dead — but with the figure of Christ removed. Van Gogh adapted this from an etching by Rembrandt in May 1890. Where Rembrandt used black and white, Van Gogh used colour to push the feeling. The risen Lazarus, with his red beard, faintly resembles the artist himself.
