The Great Wave off Kanagawa
The story
Three slender fishing boats are tossed beneath a vast, clawed wave, while Mount Fuji crouches small and pale in the distance. Hokusai designed this woodblock print around 1831 as the first sheet of his Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji. It's now one of the most reproduced images in the world.
