The story
A view down the Grand Canal in Venice toward the domed church of Santa Maria della Salute. Painted by Monet in autumn 1908 during his only stay in Venice. He made nearly forty canvases in three months, less interested in the monuments than in the shifting pink, blue, and gold reflections on the lagoon.
