The Big Tree (Te raau rahi)

A man cracks open a coconut in a patch of Tahitian forest while a family rests on the grass with a sleeping dog. Gauguin painted it on rough sackcloth in 1891, soon after reaching the island, packing the scene with mango, banana, coconut and hibiscus.
