The story
A golden swan, sent by King Nala, approaches Princess Damayanti in her garden to deliver messages of his love — a story from the Mahabharata. Raja Ravi Varma painted a version of this for the Mysore Palace, mixing European oil technique with the romantic mood of the Sanskrit story.
