Still-Life with Parrots
The story
A plucked bird, cut flowers and a pumpkin flask sit on a travel trunk covered with cloth, with a small ceramic statue of the Tahitian goddess Hina behind. Gauguin painted this quiet meditation on passing time in 1902 in Atuona, on the Marquesan island of Hiva Oa, shortly after leaving Tahiti.
