The story
Mangoes and a bright hibiscus flower grouped in a tightly framed arrangement. Gauguin painted this around the time of his 1887 trip to Martinique — possibly back in Paris afterward — and you can see him flirting with the tilted, off-kilter perspective he admired in Cézanne.
