Saraswati Pata

Saraswati, the Hindu goddess of learning, sits at the centre of a nine-panel cloth painting, enshrined in a temple with her swan and surrounded by attendants, musicians, dancers and Jain monks. Painted in Bengal in the late 1400s, this is an early example of devotional cloth painting from eastern India.
