Rhodes Memorial
The story
A pale stone temple, the monument to Cecil Rhodes, sits on the wooded slope of Devil's Peak above Cape Town. Wenning painted it in 1916, just a few years after the memorial was built, catching the bright columns against muted South African foliage.
