Nocturne in Black and Gold – The Falling Rocket
The story
Fireworks fall over the Thames at Cremorne Gardens, the night and the rocket spray reduced to flecks of gold on near-black. Painted in 1875 — Whistler sued Ruskin for slander over this picture and won a farthing.
