Les Petits cavaliers
The story
Thirteen Spanish cavaliers in plumed hats gather in a loose group. Manet painted this in 1859 as a copy of a picture he saw in the Louvre, then thought to be by Velazquez. He kept returning to this group of figures in later paintings throughout his career.
