Le Grand Canal, Venice
The story
Venice's marble palaces and the Grand Canal merge into pink and turquoise reflections. Monet visited Venice only once, in late 1908, and wrote that he despaired of capturing "the unique light of this water city." The Venetian paintings were shown together in 1912 to immediate success.
