The story
A knight meets an enchantress in a meadow, her red hair crowned with white flowers while blighted autumn leaves brush his arm. Painted in 1901, this is John Keats's 1819 ballad about a man bewitched by a cruel fairy — Dicksee swaps the poem's grim aftermath for the sensual moment of meeting.
