The story

Emperor Otto III has an innocent count beheaded after his wife is falsely accused, then makes amends once the widow proves her husband's innocence by holding a glowing iron rod unharmed. Painted by Dirk Bouts for Leuven's town hall starting in 1468, and left unfinished at his death in 1475.
