The story
Two young cousins hold each other in a tender embrace, the girl modelled by Margherita, daughter of Cremona's friend Carlo Villa. Painted around 1870, first shown in Turin in 1871 and awarded a medal at the 1873 Vienna Exposition — widely seen as Cremona's breakthrough work.
