Female Torso 1939

A nude painted in 1939 while Sher-Gil was in Hungary with her husband Victor Egan, who was finishing his medical service. She had been painting the female nude since her Paris years, but the handling here is from her late phase — flatter, more economical, and increasingly Indian in feel.
