Clovis Asleep
The story
Gauguin's young son Clovis sleeps slumped over a bedroom table. The dreamlike pattern on the wall behind him is an early sign of Gauguin moving away from outdoor Impressionism toward the symbolic, indoor scenes that would soon become his signature. Painted in Rouen in 1884.
