Bullock Cart 1937

A pair of white bullocks haul a wooden cart along a village road. Painted during Sher-Gil's travels in South India, it belongs to the series where her mature Indian style first emerged — flat colour, frieze-like layout, and a real attention to rural people that Indian art at the time had largely overlooked.
