Barbarian Poems
The story
A winged angel and a kneeling animal deity share a glowing Tahitian setting that mixes Christian, Buddhist and Polynesian imagery. Gauguin painted it in 1896 during his second stay in the islands. Scans have since uncovered an earlier scene of horses and nude riders hidden beneath.
