Bacchus leaps from his leopard-drawn chariot toward the abandoned Ariadne, his ecstatic followers trailing behind, the stars of her future crown above her head. Painted in 1520-23 for Alfonso d'Este of Ferrara — Titian's mythological masterpiece.
